Over the past few years, Chantecaille has become known for doing 'wildlife' themed palettes. Where not only do the palettes feature picturesque animals embossed on the shades, but they also serve a philanthropic purpose, because with every sale Chantecaille donates a portion to a different cause. This Fall brings us horses, wild horses to be exact and benefits the Humane Society of the United States.

The Wild Horses Palette ($83 for .035oz/10g) features four exquisite shades in warm, earthy tones reminiscent of the horses they are named after.
- Palomino (Top Left)--A soft, creamy beige eye shade, inspired by the golden coats and glistening blonde manes of Palomino horses
- Freedom (Top Right)--A flattering sunset pink that creates a soft, windswept-flush
- Mustang (Lower Left)--A warm chestnut brown eye shade illuminated by flecks of gold, inspired by the iconic, wild Mustangs of the West
- Black Stallion (Lower Right)--A midnight black liner with a whisper of shimmer, inspired by the elusive Black Stallion

The shades of the Wild Horses palette have a very light overspray. When dusted away, we are left with four easily wearable shades.
- Mustang is a luminous copper, that seems to be lit from within. It feels soft and smooth. It is very pigmented and is fully opaque one pass. It is a joy to use.
- Black Stallion is a soft, black matte. It feels like silk--it is satiny, creamy, buttery. It is not very pigmented with one pass and needs some layering to achieve mostly opaque coverage. It never really achieves a true black.
- Freedom is a warm, salmony pink matte. The overspray here is a completely misleading. Untouched, Freedom is more of a rust color, yet once it is used, it looks like an entirely different shade. It feels like Black Stallion, but it is much more pigmented. It is mostly to fully opaque in one pass.
- Palomino is a yellow beige matte. It is semi-transparent in one pass and needs two to three passes for full coverage. It is feels like Mustang, fairly delicate and silky.

I have mixed feelings toward the Wild Horses palette. While I love the theme and cause of this palette, I don't know if I feel the colors are all that original. Almost every palette is a variation of the same formula--a lighter eye shade, a mid-tone contour color, a dark eyeliner shade and a peachy-pink cheek shade. And most palettes seem to all be warm toned, for the most part. I have more than a few Chantecaille palettes, and all the cheek shades are very similar. Even the cooler toned blushes, such as the one in Les Dauphins, are more warm toned than you might think. I think Wild Horses is a superbly done palette--the texture and quality is absolutely wonderful--I just wish they would spice it up--just a bit.
