The Maestro Mediterranea Collection for Summer 2014, from Giorgio Armani, expands on the already wildly successful Maestro Fusion Makeup line, which was launched in 2012. This new series, promises a flushing, coppery glow in a single drop.

The collection, consisting of three shades of blush and a versatile bronzer is inspired by the power of the glaring rays in the Italian sky. According to Linda Cantello, Giorgio Armani’s International Makeup Artist, the thought and idea of a healthy, natural summer glow, is more than just having a tan. It's also about radiance and luminosity. That's where the Maestro Mediterranea line comes in. By having such weightless, pigmented shades, that can be easily layered, blended and combined, it allows you to create your own custom summer look.

Maestro Fusion Blush in #500 ($52 for 0.5fl.oz./15mL) is a featherweight, liquid blush that blends onto the skin. While containing minimal amounts of water, though it does contain a fair amount of talc, the formula relies heavily on different oils to deliver the color, leaving the skin feeling bare and clean. The Maestro Fusion Blush is presented in the same type of packaging as the Maestro Fusion Foundation, a glass jar with a dropper. It the distinguishable scent of alcohol.

Shade #500 is a medium light to medium, warm, rosy terracotta. It dries down to a mostly matte finish. There is also the finest, most imperceptible shimmer, which a lot of the time isn't visible, except in full sunlight, which gives it a delicate, soft glow. The color can be layered from a slight flush, to a rich, intense stain.

The Maestro Fusion Blush has a fluid consistency, though it's thick enough that it won't drip or run down your face. A little goes a very long way. Let me say that again, a little goes a long way. You need maybe a drop, at the most. The best way to use this is to dot on one cheek at a time, and blend with your fingertips. You have to work rather quickly, as it dries fairly fast. If you overdo it, it can be buffed out - to a point, though once it sets, its set. The formula does seem to stain the fingers (though this doesn't happen on the face at all). I purposely left swatches on my arm, and as time went on, they faded and wore away.

I am a little on the fence about the new Maestro Fusion Blush. While I fell in love with the new Cheek Fabric blushes, and felt as if they were a breath of fresh air, I did not feel the same about these. While the lightweight formula is perfect for summer, and gives natural, seamless color, for some it can take practice. It can also emphasize pores. Also worth noting is that the formula is claimed to contain no water or white powder, yet both are listed among the ingredients. Further, My bottle arrived not filled completely, and have heard others mention the same. Fear not, one bottle will still last a lifetime.

I purchased my Maestro Fusion Blush #500 from Nordstrom. It is also available from Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's.

What do you think of the new Maestro Fusion Blushes? Will you be picking one up?
