As a part of their Summer 2014 Collection, Bleus Lumiere, Yves Saint Laurent has released two new polishes in shades of blue, Bleu Celadon #50 and Bleu Cyclades #51. Both polishes are hues that mimic aquatic shades of the ocean.

Ever since the first time I tried YSL's La Laque Couture nail polish, it has become one of my favorites, fighting Chanel, Dior and Rescue Beauty Lounge for space in my collection. The quality is exceptional. It has a dense, flat, wide brush, with a gently rounded tip that holds quite a bit of polish. The brush pulls the polish, as opposed to pushing it, which allows the polish to go on smoother and more evenly. For a polish that isn't marketed as quick drying, the formula dries surprisingly fast. It lasts fairly long, I usually get about five days wear before I see any chipping or tip wear.

Bleu Celadon #50 ($27 0.34fl oz/10mL) is a pale, neutral to cool toned, sky blue cream, with a touch of cyan. It's a cross between Chanel Coco Blue and Nouvelle Vague, only much lighter, though it's closer to Nouvelle Vague. It was opaque in two coats and went on smoothly and effortlessly.

Comparisons to Chanel Coco Blue, Chanel Nouvelle Vague, Chanel Riva and Rescue Beauty Lounge Bikini Bottom:

Coco Blue is richer, darker and bluer, more pigmented with slight shimmer. Nouvelle Vague also has a touch of shimmer, is touch darker and greener. Riva is a paler, milky powder blue with iridescence. While Bikini Bottom is close in color, it's jelly finish makes it appear quite different than Bleu Celadon.

In the bottle, Bleu Cyclades #51 ($27 0.34fl oz/10mL) is a deep, midnight blue that shifts to royal blue, with faint royal blue shimmer. On the nails, it's close to what it looks like in the bottle, except the flash isn't as intense as it is in the bottle. It has a slightly metallic finish and was opaque in one coat, though I used two.

I pulled a couple of similar blue, metallic polishes to compare to Bleu Cyclades. Chanel Bel-Argus is lighter, with a royal blue to indigo shift and a metallic finish. Brushstrokes are quite visible in the finish of this polish as well. Rescue Beauty Lounge Cuprum is a lighter, cerulean blue with copper micro-glitter.

Overall, I'm in love with these two new polishes from YSL. The colors may be a bit dupable, but the formula and application is not. Both colors go on like a dream. Bleu Celadon is my personal favorite. It's the perfect mix of blue and green and should appease many.
